In April, 2009 I moved into the Freedom Road House at the age of 47. I was lacking the knowledge on how to live in the real world without Alcohol and Drugs. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to quit. The rules stated that I had to have a job, get a sponsor, and attend AA meetings. Reluctantly I did get a sponsor, I already had my own carpet business (which wasn't going very well), and I started to listen at the AA meetings. My sponsor didn't waste no time introducing me to the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, along with the traditions, and we started taking the steps. The structure, and disiplines of the house also helped me to be accountable, and also to fulfill the conditions that the courts had laid out for me. I successfully completed all the conditions of my probation, and continued to go to AA, and got active in my group. Four years latter I can't begin to tell you how my life has changed, I am even a sponsor now passing on what was so freely given to me. The carpet business is booming, I have a host of good solid friends, and my life has new meaning. Without the Freedom Road and their no nonsence approch of learning to "Chop the Wood, and Carry the Water" I don't know where I would be today.

The foundation of my recovery was built at the Freedom Road House, this after spending time in prison as a direct result of my use of drugs, and alcohol. The Sunday morning Big Book study, and the Monday night open AA meeting, plus active work with a sponsor, has gotten me to a life I never thought possible. While at the Freedom Road I was given instuctions on a company that was hiring, I have been there now for four years, and have been made a lead. I just purchased my own place, have great insurance, 401 retirement, all from following directions. I have become the brother, son, friend, and usefull member of society that I always wanted, but didn't know how to attain. The Freedom Road gave me the tools that I needed for a happy and contentful life, and what a life!!
